The 80s On Screen: Dallas, Dynasty and Love Boat

Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing

Larry Hagman played the villainous yet popular character J.R. Ewing, who was a jealous, egotistical and unethical oil tycoon. He became the talk of the town during the summer of 1980 when the episode “Who Shot J.R.?” aired and sparked a real controversy throughout the country.

Ewing was just one of those characters that people loved to hate. He was the brains behind the oil company, the husband of Sue Ellen and the eldest son of Jock and Ellie Ewing. Hagman was the only actor in the series to appear in all 356 episodes of ‘Dallas.’
