Who’s Up for a Toga Party? The Story Behind the Cult Classic ‘Animal House’

… Because they had already missed out on a Hollywood opportunity.

While the producers were scouring the country and searching for a college campus to be the location of ‘Animal House,’ the filmmakers visited 6 states and 12 different colleges. Although the schools were happy to entertain the funny sounding Hollywood idea, they changed their minds as soon as they saw the film’s script.

But the University of Oregon gave them the green light, and only through a stroke of luck. It turned out that the school previously turned down the opportunity for ‘The Graduate’ to film there as the school’s president thought the script was too dirty. This regret led him to accept this opportunity – without even reading the script.
