Doug Kenney Would Have Been 71
The characters Stork and Hardbar were created for the sole purpose of having writers Doug Kenney and Chris Miller on the set of their movie. Hardbar was named after a real frat brother of Chris Miller’s. After working on the Harvard Lampoon as a college undergraduate, Douglas C. Kenney co-founded the National Lampoon’s magazine as well as the National Lampoon Radio Hour.

Though almost unknown, Doug Kenney was a creator of many popular and groundbreaking new forms of comedy and satire. But unfortunately, as we already mentioned, he died before his time in 1980 at the age of 33. Kenney collaborated at Harvard with his friend, Henry Beard, to create National Lampoon and the two pooled their talents to create a radical new humor magazine. His comedy was sophomoric, rebellious, vulgar and just plain funny.
