Who’s Up for a Toga Party? The Story Behind the Cult Classic ‘Animal House’

Donald Sutherland is Now 84

Donald Sutherland (Professor Dave Jennings) was so convinced of the movie’s lack of potential that when he was offered a choice between a percentage of the gross earnings or a flat fee of $75,000 for three days’ work, he took the upfront payment.

But had he taken the gross percentage, he would have made three to four million dollars. That sucks. But all is well. ‘Animal House’ turned out to be one of Sutherland’s personal favorites of all his movies. He described it as the funniest experience he had on a set.
