Titanic – Behind the Scenes of the Classic Romantic Movie Based on a True Story

Seeing Double

We already spoke about how the production team only employed short extras to make the engine room look bigger, but that wasn’t the only trick that they had up their sleeves. There were a lot of filming secrets and techniques that went into the scene that takes place in the boiler room. They needed to make it look way more realistic.

To make the scene convincing, the set was constructed with mirrors. That way, the number of boilers would be doubled, giving the illusion that there are more. The set only had three boilers, but thanks to the mirrors, audiences see six when they watch it. This was a pretty smart idea. Someone really creative must have come up with it.
