Then comes 1932’s ‘Tarzan the Ape Man.’ One of the most famous parts about the Tarzan character is his distinctive yell, which happened to originate in this classic film. Actor Johnny Weissmuller made his film debut as Tarzan, which ended up being a role he would reprise in 11 sequels. Actress Maureen O’Sullivan plays Jane.

Unlike ‘Tarzan of the Apes,’ this one is more loosely based on Burroughs’ novel. The film has also been remade twice, once in 1959 and another time in 1981 – both with the same title. This film introduced Tarzan’s animal pal, Cheeta the chimpanzee, a character that wasn’t featured in the novels, but people just couldn’t get enough of the little fella.
