Doane Robinson is known as the “Father of Mount Rushmore.” He was the brains behind Mount Rushmore National Park. His purpose was to create a popular attraction that would lead people from all over the country to his state. Robinson contacted sculptor Gutzon Borglum. George Washington’s birthday was not on February 22nd, 1732. It was actually on February 11th, 1731. Once the colonies switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, his birthday moved 11 days. He was born before New Years, but after the new date for New Years, his birth year was changed to 1732.
