From Book to Film: The Full Story of Midnight Cowboy

Starting To Write

James Leo Herlihy had enjoyed an interesting life through the 1940s, and he eventually became friends with famous playwright Tennessee Williams. Williams became a kind of mentor figure to James, as the pair both spent a lot of their time in Key West, Florida, and had also lived in New York City too.

Perhaps inspired by the wonderful works of Williams, James started writing plays. One of his first works was Streetlight Sonata, released in 1950, followed by Moon in Capricorn in 1953 and then Blue Denim, which became a Broadway play. He enjoyed quite a lot of success with his plans, before turning to other kinds of written work.
