One of the most controversial couples in Hollywood, John Lennon, and Yoko Ono had their marriage in the most unconventional way. On March 20, 1969, in the British Consulate Office of Gibraltar, Lennon married Ono. They started dating in 1966 but had to wait until John Lennon’s divorce came through before they could be married. The two were unconventional in many ways. With their dress all white, Yoko wore a white miniskirt and top, floppy hat, knee socks, and plimsolls. The groom also wore a white suit, shirt, and pants. The number of guests wasn’t disclosed, but the ceremony was only a 10-minute long, which was presided by the registrar and attended by the band’s photographer. The relationship between Lennon and Ono was often blamed as the reason why the Beatles disbanded. The controversial couple had a son in 1975, but after five years from the birth of their first son, John Lennon was shot and died in 1980. Yoko Ono is still living today and celebrated their 49th year of marriage last March 29.
