Wendy’s Established Their First Location in Columbus, Ohio
The founder Dave Thomas got the idea for square patties from Kewpee Hamburgers in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He opened his first restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, back in 1969.
Fun fact: Borrowed the idea of Square Burger patties from another restaurant.
The square-shaped patties were supposed to stick out of the buns, so you were able to see the quality of meat. Dave named the restaurant after his fourth child, Melinda Lou ‘Wendy’ Thomas.
