Jackie Brown
This crime thriller released in 1997 is based on Elmore Leonard’s novel, Rum Punch. It features Pam Grier in the leading role and Robert De Niro, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Robert Forster, and Bridget Fonda in supporting roles. A flight attendant finds herself torn between betraying her boss who could kill her and going to prison. She opts to deceive both parties and flee with the smuggled money that put her in that situation.
The film received positive reviews, and it was also a commercial success. The Belgian Syndicate of Cinema Critics nominated the film for the prestigious Grand Prix Award. Grier and Jackson received Golden Globe Award nominations while Forster was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award. In 1998, Jackson won the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Berlin International Film Festival. While the movie was a commercial and critical success, it is a gem that is often forgotten.
