Stephen Furst (Flounder) got the part after one of the National Lampoon publishers ordered a pizza. That pizza box contained his resume. Tom Hulce (Pinto) only signed on to the movie to take divert from the serious subject matter was always dealing with on stage, as he was starring in the play ‘Equus.’

Random trivia: In 1996, between the 3rd and 4th seasons of Babylon 5, Furst shed about 100 pounds, going from over 275 pounds to 175. When he returned for the 4th season, all of the existing Vir Cotto costumes were too big for him.
