Who’s Up for a Toga Party? The Story Behind the Cult Classic ‘Animal House’

Anyone who was in college in the late 70s and 80s will definitely feel nostalgic towards their college years. And a large part of that would be due to the shock wave that Animal House had throughout the frat world. Many dorm room walls have featured the image of John Belushi wearing his Animal House COLLEGE sweatshirt. The rather small 1978 film became one of the biggest comedy cult classics of all time, and launched more than just a few Hollywood careers, like Belushi and Kevin Bacon to name a few.

‘Animal House,’ which won a People’s Choice Award in 1979 for Favorite Non-Musical Motion Picture, was definitely a funny college film, but the best part about it is that the same shenanigans were going on behind the scenes! And surprisingly, a lot of method acting was involved. Just like the movie scenes themselves, the stories behind ‘Animal House’ also include fights, drugs, and, of course, vomit.
