Early in the movie, there is a dramatic scene where Jack helps a distraught Rose from jumping off of the ship on purpose. If you remember this scene, you most likely recall that Jack tells Rise a story to prevent her from jumping. If you don’t remember, he tells the redhead about the time he was ice fishing and fell into the freezing cold water.

He described it as “being stabbed with a thousand knives all over your body.” Well, did you know that this graphic memory is a direct quote from one of the survivors who described his experience in the Atlantic Ocean? This is a chilling line once you know the context. It’s just another example of James Cameron adding elements of real-life into his fictional story.
