Titanic – Behind the Scenes of the Classic Romantic Movie Based on a True Story

The Unsinkable Molly Brown

Molly Brown was wonderfully portrayed by the famed actress, Kathy Bates. But did you know that the character was based on a real passenger aboard the Titanic that night? Her name is Margaret Brown, but in today’s pop culture, she is referred to as “the unsinkable Molly Brown.” She was an American socialite as well as a first-class passenger on the Titanic.

She will always be remembered for helping load the lifeboats, as well as the strong, powerful passenger who encouraged and motivated all the women on her boat (number 6) to continue rowing until they found help. She later worked to help others who survived the terrifying shipwreck. Molly Brown was a true American Hero, so we love that she was included in the movie.
