George Washington Never Knew That Dinosaurs Existed
It sounds strange, but George Washington died in 1799 and the first dinosaur fossil was only discovered in 1824. The soldier, farmer, statesman and the first President of the US, like everyone else at the time, didn’t know that dinosaurs existed.
Dinosaurs weren’t scientifically recognized until 1824 when British naturalist William Buckland first described the Megalosaurus, which was the very first dinosaur to be scientifically named.
