Ecstasy Was Invented the Same Year the Titanic Sank

That was the same year that pharmaceutical company Merck was trying to develop a substance that would stop abnormal bleeding. One of their chemists, Anton Köllisch, synthesized MDMA to avoid a patent by their rival company Bayer. It wasn’t until 1975 that the psychoactive effects of the drug started to be taken seriously.
