The Secret Service was created a few months after the death of Abraham Lincoln who was assassinated on April 15, 1865.

The legislation to create the Secret Service was actually sitting on Lincoln’s desk the night he died. So, who knows, maybe if the service was created a few months earlier they could have stopped the plot to assassinate him.
