The Gates Foundation
Bill and Melinda Gates are arguably one of the most influential power couples in the world and are known for their charitable efforts. They met in 1984 when Melinda was hired by Bill’s company Microsoft as a product manager and married on a golf course in Hawaii on January 1, 1994. They have a huge combined net worth of US$90 billion but have stated that their three children will not receive much of this fortune in their inheritances. Instead, and honorably, they plan to give most away to charity. In 2000, they founded the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which is aimed at improving and advancing global health. In 2016, both Bill and Melinda were awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama, the highest civilian award in the US, for their charitable work.
