They Got Split Up… For a Reason

Preston and Robert were the two middle brothers who had enlisted before the Second World War began. It was after America entered the war that the eldest, Edward, and the youngest, Frederick (Fritz), joined in November of 1942. Upon joining the military, the four brothers from Tonawanda, New York were spread out in various units in the army.

Fritz and Robert were placed in the 501st and 505th Parachute Infantries, respectively; Preston in the 22nd Infantry, and Edward was put in the Army Air Corps. There was a reason why the brothers were split up and sent to different units. And that was because the U.S. Army learned their lesson after the tragedy of the fallen Sullivan brothers earlier that year…
