When bad blood started to boil with the rival tribes, Mildin fought with his tribal people, teaching them the art of “surprise attacks.” But war is tiresome, and after he felt like he had enough, he essentially abandoned his wives, his children, and his tribe and slowly made his way up the coast.

It took months, but when he finally arrived in his home nation of Britain, he returned to claim his title, estate, and of course, his white male privilege. The warring tribes in the part of Western Africa where Mildin was living at the time is a verifiable fact. There was an 1884 report from Fort Lamy, verifying that Mildin went through there to get home.
