Sinead’s 1990 hit was actually written and recorded originally by Prince in 1984. But didn’t release it and the song was never heard until Sinead released it on her album.

This song was #1 in 17 countries. In the US, it was one of the top songs of 1990, topping the Hot 100 for four weeks. In the music video, Sinead cried, and it was a real tear. She said, “I didn’t intend for that moment to happen, but when it did, I thought, ‘I should let this happen.’” And it really did make an impact.
