Roy Rogers’ Life Makes Him Impossible to Forget, Even After All These Years

Joining His First-Ever Group

When Roy was a teenager, he dropped out of high school to help support his family. His name was Leonard at the time and he worked as a truck driver and fruit picker alongside his father. In 1931, after moving to California, he tried his luck auditioning for a radio show called Middlenight Frolics in Los Angles. He impressed them a lot, so they proposed he join a western group called the Rocky Mountaineers.

Albeit, he was pretty average at the time, but soon got better and started performing in front of the crowds and letting go of his shyness. The Rocky Mountaineers toured in places like Arizona and New Mexico in the summers. They had a very low spending budget and often lacked food.
