How it All Started!
Leonard Slye, aka Roy Rogers, was born on November 5, 1911, in Cincinnati, Ohio. His father gave him a horse when he was still a very young boy. As he was brought up on a farm, which was located near Lucasville, it all worked together, and he grew up learning every skill about horsemanship. This would later play a great part in setting one of his trademark roles.
Growing up on the farm also helped him learn some other skills such as singing, dancing, and playing mandolin, which later became his strengths in his glorious career. He learned all of this because his family lacked a radio. The Slye family worked for their pleasure and amusement in this way. They even arranged square dances for fun and relaxation.
