It Was First A Stage Show
Richard O’Brien wanted to tell his story. He set out with a script for the theater, which is his area of expertise. The Rocky Horror Picture Show was first The Rocky Horror Show. They added ‘Picture’ for the film. O’Brien would use his spare time to write the play and then gathered his friends to make it happen.
The Rocky Horror Show was premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in 1973, and everyone loved it. This hit moved to larger venues shortly after. It ran for so many weeks that producers started to notice, even gaining recognition from Hollywood. If we wouldn’t have had this stage production first, and if it wouldn’t have been so popular, we would have never had the film.
