Shooting a Spontaneous Scene
Sometimes, memorable scenes are made with unplanned things; and many classic movie scenes are ones that were never meant to happen. When Vivian Ward was presented with a diamond necklace by Edward Lewis for the opera, that moment went down in film history as one of the best-unscripted scenes ever.

Julia Roberts, as scripted, reached out to touch the diamond necklace, and that was when Richard Gere snapped the case shut. This scene was totally unplanned and thought up by Richard himself. Naturally, Roberts laughed spontaneously – her famous smile that still has many smitten by her – and voila! That scene was added to the movie and became one of the most iconic things about Pretty Woman.
