The Handkerchief Improvisation
Most of the funniest, most-loved scenes from the movie were those that were unscripted and unplanned. One such scene is the one in which Vivian walks into the hotel, and the hotel manager starts interrogating her on what business she has in a five-star luxury hotel. At that point, Vivian, clearly upset, blows her nose loudly into a handkerchief, which the manager – now considerably calmer – hands over to her.

This nose-blowing scene was not scripted and was improvised by Julia herself. And while she had done it just for laughs, Roberts revealed that she had really hoped that that cut wouldn’t make it into the movie because she thought it was disgusting. But everyone else loved it, and so it stayed.
