Garry Marshall: A Legend
Garry Marshall passed away in 2016 at the age of 81. His presence in Hollywood was felt in the many iconic films that he directed, but Pretty Woman might just be his most successful. Maybe it’s because it was his movie that rocketed Julia Roberts into superstardom.

Since the movie came out in 1990, Marshall and Roberts have stayed close, up until the award-winning director’s death on July 19, 2016. In a 2006 interview with PEOPLE, Marshall spoke about discovering Roberts: “We’re a business who loves to discover a star. She was absolutely delightful and charming. It wasn’t just good acting – she was magical. Sooner or later, somebody would have discovered her, but I was glad I was the one.”
