Origins and Accents
While the original ‘Star Trek’ was starting to create a loyal following, the band the Monkees were exploding on TV sets. Because of this, Roddenberry created the character Pavel Andreievich Chekov as a close resemblance to Monkees’ lead singer, Davy Jones, only with a Russian accent.

Speaking of accents, despite Captain Picard’s British accent, he was actually born in France where his family owned a vineyard. Jean-Luc Picard was born on 13 July 2305 to Maurice and Yvette Picard in La Barre, France.
