Although Gene Roddenberry was highly involved in the animated series’ conception and production, he still didn’t consider them to be a “canon” or part of the established history of the characters he created.

Majel Barrett Roddenberry was the only actor that was in all Star Trek incarnations, including the animated ones. She managed to complete the voice of the computer in Star Trek 2009 before her death on December 2008.
