A Seemingly Cursed Family
John Gilbert Getty is the latest victim of the horrible tragedies endured by the descendants of billionaire oil baron Jean-Paul Getty. 52-year-old John Gilbert was found dead in a hotel room in November 2020, leaving behind a 26-year-old daughter, Ivy, and brothers Peter and Billy. Their other brother Andrew died in 2014, and their mother, Ann, passed away at the height of the pandemic in September 2020.

Drugs have plagued the tycoon family for generations. John Gilbert’s cousin, John Paul Getty III, was left disabled after a kidnapping led him on a terrible drug and alcohol-induced path in the 1970s. He was severely handicapped for the rest of his life.
