Anton Dostler, 1945

Nazi General Anton Dostler is seen tied to a stake for execution by firing squad in Aversa stockade, Italy. He was the first Nazi General to be executed. In 1944, Dostler ordered and supervised the unlawful execution of 15 captured American soldiers during the Italian Campaign.

The bodies of the U.S. soldiers were buried in mass in a ditch. An American Military Tribunal convicted and sentenced General Dostler to death on December 1, 1945, after the end of World War II.
