Mansfield’s Malfunction

Regarded as the inventor of “wardrobe malfunctions” – essentially publicity stunts – American actress Jayne Mansfield often had photos taken of her in public wearing revealing clothing. This photo is arguably one of the most famous of Mansfield, with another legendary actress, Sophia Loren. They were at a party thrown for Loren and, apparently, Mansfield attempted to steal the limelight. As you can see, Loren was jealous that all eyes were on her competitor. She said of the occasion: “She came right for my table. She knew everyone was watching. There may be other photos, but this is the picture. This is the one that shows how it was. This is the only picture.”
