Easy Rider: The Making, the Filming, and Behind the Scenes

The Hippie Culture

Like most ‘60s movies, the hippie culture was brought into it. They wanted to make sure to show different types of cultures across the U.S., so they brought us to a hippie commune. It started when Wyatt and Billy were driving down a road and spotted a hitchhiker wearing round glasses and tie-dye clothing. He was on the way back to his commune and brought the boys along with him.

Billy isn’t too interested in staying there, but that doesn’t stop them from taking two of the women from the commune over to a hot spring to skinny dip. This was one of the happiest scenes in the movie, being as the rest of it was them trying not to get killed by hillbillies throughout Southern America.
