Jimmy Hoffa was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1913, to a poor coal miner John and his wife Viola in Brazil, Indiana. His father died of lung cancer in 1920 when Jimmy was seven years old. The family then moved to Detroit in 1924, where he was raised and lived for the rest of his life. Hoffa left school when he was 14 and began working manual labor jobs full-time to help support his family.
