Casablanca: The Facts Behind the Most Romantic Movie Ever Made

Of all the classic Hollywood films, Casablanca remains one of the best-known and most enduring. When Casablanca was released in American theaters way back in 1942, no one had any clue as to how much of an impact it would have on people and on Hollywood itself. Amazingly, the people involved in making the film thought it would be just another flick, one of the hundreds that the studios released every year.

But the film took film stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman and shot them to a whole new level of superstardom. Their lines in the film have been woven into the fabric of American culture and still repeated to this day. Casablanca was nominated for eight Academy Awards, won Best Picture, Best Director for Michael Curtiz, and Best Screenplay. Much later, in 2006, the Writers Guild of America called Casablanca’s script the best screenplay of all time.
