Buried in the Massachusetts State House
During the beginning stages of construction of the Massachusetts State House, this time capsule was inserted intentionally into the building’s cornerstone. The iconic National Historic Landmark was completed after three years and can be seen still today in the Beacon Hill/Downtown area of Boston.
The building is difficult to miss regardless, with its golden dome. But its hidden time capsule adds a new element to the building’s rich history.
FYI: Beacon Hill is one of Boston’s most picturesque areas, with steep streets lined with Federal-style and Victorian brick row homes with antique lanterns. The Massachusetts State House overlooks Boston Common and its winter skating pond. Charles Street is home to chic boutiques and antiques shops. The Charles River Esplanade’s Hatch Shell is hot to many summer concerts.
