PETA Honored Bob Barker with a Building
You probably remember the way each episode ended, right? Something that started in the 1980s was how Bob Barker started signing off. As the episode was about to end, he would say: “Have your pets spayed or neutered.” As a kid, I never really understood why he kept saying that all the time. Well, as it turns out, Barker had a real fondness for animals. And the tradition of signing off that way was kept when Drew Carey, who succeeded Barker, continued on with the show.
Barker took his passion far, and he threatened to leave the production of the 1987 Miss USA pageant, which was hired to host if the contestants wouldn’t exchange their real fur for fake fur. He donated $2.5 million to convert a building in Los Angeles into PETA’s west coast headquarters after he retired. It’s called the Bob Barker Building.
