Robert Downey Jr. as Charlie Chaplin
In 1992, Chaplin was released. The British-American comedy-drama is focused on British comedian and silent film actor Charlie Chaplin. Richard Attenborough directed the film, and it featured the one and only Robert Downey Jr. That’s right, before becoming Ironman, Downey received an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Chaplin.
Robert Downey Jr. was only 27 years old when he was cast as Chaplin, and it was the first time he ever really prepared for a role. To embody the iconic filmmaker, Downey spent a year researching Chaplin and studying his films. The actor watched him so that he can imitate his movements and talk in a British accent. He even went as far as to learn Chaplin’s hobbies, including tennis and playing the violin.
