Ed Sullivan may not have been charismatic, but his ability to discover and also showcase new talent was pretty amazing. A huge variety of entertainers performed on the show, including comedians like Joan Rivers, Bob Hope, and Buster Keaton. And singers like James Brown, Sister Sourire, and Janis Joplin. Even classic performers like Rudolf Nureyev came on the show.

Sullivan had a knack for picking out performers who he felt would make it to super-stardom. In fact, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Elvis Presley were just some of the legendary artists who made their breakthrough performances on his variety show. Others who made it big after their appearances on his show were The Muppets and Jackson 5, for example.
