A Day in the Short-Lived Yet Lavish Life of the Titanic and its Passengers…Before it Sank

Titanic Had High Standards to Live Up To

Cunard’s cruise liners had already heralded the golden age of speed and luxury. Mauritania features these luxurious gentleman’s lounges that could easily compete with Britain’s best; it also burned oil instead of coal. Olympia had fast yet fuel-efficient engines and similar high-standards for ensuring the comfort of their travelers at all times.

Titanic set out to build something much bigger and grander than anything the British high-class had ever seen. Pictured above is a first-class smoking room from the R.M.S Mauretania. Titanic not only featured a smoking room for the gentlemen but public rooms and parlors for ladies, game rooms, gyms, as well as something that had never been seen on a Cunard Liner before – a swimming pool!
