1920 vs. 2020: What’s Changed (and What Hasn’t) After 100 Years

As you probably know, the country experienced a nationwide constitutional ban on producing, importing, transporting, and selling alcohol from 1920 to 1933. That’s 13 years of no (legal) alcohol. Anyone who saw Boardwalk Empire has an idea of what really went down. Why the prohibition? Religious organizations believed that less alcohol consumption would decrease crime, domestic violence, and raise piety in America.

At least that’s what they thought. The truth is alcohol was still being drunk, just that everything was forced under the table. Today, the drinking and nightlife scene is quite different, but one thing remains the same. People like to drink. A lot. Every generation has its own struggles, and let’s face it – drinking is just one way to escape.
