As a child, Jessica Simpson began singing in the choir of a local Baptist church where her father, Joseph Simpson, also worked as the congregation’s youth minister. When she was 11 years, she decided to nurture her hopes to become a successful singer during a church retreat. At age 13, she attended a church camp where she sang Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” and an arrangement of “Amazing Grace.” While she was at the camp, Jessica was introduced to the founder of a small gospel music record label, Proclaim Records. She recorded an album with the record label titled, Jessica. The record label declared bankruptcy and the album was never officially released. She has also shared the stage with famous gospel artists such as God’s Property, Kirk Franklin, and Ce Ce Winans.
