A Missing World War II Submarine Was Found: The U.S.S. Grayback

Reporting the Grayback Missing

So after the February 25th message, no one has heard from the Grayback crew ever again. By tracking the location of their last message, it was believed that they most likely reached the re-supply station by March 7th, 1944. So they wanted to check in and see how that went.

However, the situation got much more frightening when they were informed that the submarine didn’t even make it to their expected re-supply destination at Midway Atoll three weeks later. At that point, everyone was alarmed, and the submarine was finally reported missing on March 30th, 1944. Where could it have gone? Did it sink? Nobody knew a thing, but they certainly wanted to find out.
