In the Middle of Controversy
The line “A person’s a person, no matter how small,” taken from the story “Horton Hears a Who! ” has been used as a motto for anti-abortion organizations. It was questioned whether that was Seuss’ intent in the first place.
But it’s unlikely since he once threatened to sue an anti-abortion group if they didn’t remove his words from their letterhead. Karl ZoBell, Dr. Seuss’ lawyer, said that she doesn’t like people to “hijack Dr. Seuss characters or material to front their own points of view.”
