Since it was the old times and communication was done through words on a piece of paper, it was Billie who took the reins and wrote her a letter. Billie had been hearing about this unique woman at his father’s work. He could not stop himself from admiring her.

Billie was in San Antonio, training at the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was never reluctant about their courtship, and when he was awarded a leave from his training, he rushed to see her.
‘’ I began to get letters from Billie. I was a little fearful of this man, who had not seen me but thought I was okay. So when he came on leave (from the army), all of a sudden the door to the airplane opened, and Billie Harris was saying ‘Hello Peggy,’ and that was about it.’’
