The Life of Hollywood’s Leading Man: Clark Gable

What’s Up, Doc?

Clark Gable didn’t just play characters; he also inspired some of them. That’s right. Clarke Gable was the inspiration for two popular fictional characters, the first being Bugs Bunny from the Looney Tunes. Apparently, Gable had a tendency to eat carrots while he was just standing around. Plus, Oscar Shapely, a minor character in It Happened One Night, refers to Gable’s character “Bugs Dooly” as “Doc.”

In one of the movie’s scenes, Gable’s character can be seen leaning against a fence eating carrots and talking with his mouth full. The star also has a connection to Superman. Apparently, the name Clark Kent is a mixture of Clark Gable and Kent Taylor.
