Gender Mistake
On February 1st, 1901, in Cadiz, Ohio, Clark Gable was born into the world. Gable was named William after his father, but he never really went by it. Growing up, everyone called him Clark of Billy. When he was first born- thanks to a doctor’s messy handwriting- Gable was originally listed as a girl.
It was obviously a mistake, but he ended up being listed as a female in the county register. Eventually, the clerk went back to correct the mistake, and he was changed to a male, as he should be. Considering he quickly became a masculine heartthrob in Hollywood, Gable never experienced a confusion like this again.
