However, Woodward wasn’t impressed. She actually thought, “That’s disgusting,” and thought that Newman was nothing but “just a pretty face.” Needless to say, it wasn’t love at first sight… well, at least not for her. Newman, on the other hand, immediately noticed her and felt a spark.

The beautiful blonde from Thomasville, Georgia, managed to charm Newman right away. In the book Paul Newman: A Life, Shawn Levy quoted him, saying, “She was modern and independent, whereas I was shy and a bit conservative. It took me a long time to persuade her that I wasn’t as dull as I looked.” Unfortunately, the timing couldn’t have been any worse.
