Johnny Carson was an alcoholic. And that means that his worst qualities came out when he was drunk, and that was most of the time, unfortunately. And so, many of the people he encountered remember him as a cruel drunk.
In 1982, Carson was driving his DeLorean while under the influence. He later pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge. He received three years’ probation. As part of his sentence, he was required to attend an alcohol program for drivers. He was only allowed to use his car to drive to work and back, and he wasn’t allowed to drive around any people or animals.
